Supplier Financial Health Check: Questions Every Buyer Should Ask
Google Maps Street View is a powerful but underused verification tool. Search the factory address and check: does the location match the description? Is the building size consistent with claimed production capacity? Does Street View show the factory sign in the photos? I've caught suppliers claiming factory status when Street View showed a residential apartment building. This one check takes 2 minutes and costs nothing.
Your gut feeling after multiple interactions with a supplier is a valid data point. If communication is consistently slow, answers are evasive, or promises are repeatedly broken during the sales process, those patterns will worsen during production. A supplier's sales behavior is the most accurate predictor of their operational behavior. If something feels off during quotation and negotiation, trust that instinct and dig deeper before committing.
Alibaba Trade Assurance has limitations that many buyers don't understand. It covers non-shipment and quality issues only for the specific order, subject to the supplier's deposited funds. It does not cover consequential damages, lost profits, or ongoing business interruption. It's better than no protection but should not replace proper due diligence. Think of it as a safety net, not a comprehensive insurance policy.
