Why India's Import Tariff Structure Matters for ASEAN Supply Chains

African import demand is diversifying beyond traditional commodities. Fastest-growing import categories include machinery, electronics, construction materials, and processed foods. Chinese exporters are well-positioned in these categories, but face increasing competition from Indian, Turkish, and European suppliers. The winners will be those who invest in local market knowledge, warehousing, and after-sales service.

The EU's Digital Product Passport requirement is coming into effect for several product categories starting 2026. It requires manufacturers to provide detailed product lifecycle data: raw material sources, manufacturing processes, repair instructions, and end-of-life disposal. Chinese factories exporting to Europe need to implement systems to capture and share this data. Early compliance is a competitive advantage.
