How I Increased My Cold Email Reply Rate from 2% to 15%

The subject line determines whether your email gets opened or deleted. I've tested several approaches. Straightforward subjects like 'LED lighting manufacturer from China' got a 3% open rate. Question-type subjects like 'Having trouble with supplier quality?' reached 8%. Data-driven subjects hit 12%. Lead with value, not with yourself.

Never attach files to a cold email. The goal is to start a conversation, not to deliver your product catalog. Attachments trigger spam filters and take too long to download. Instead, embed images in the email body or include a link to your product page. Make it easy for the buyer to respond.

Combining customs data with cold emailing is remarkably effective. If you can see that a buyer imports your product category from another country, mention your understanding of that market. This positions you as an industry insider, not a random spammer. Personalization at this level gets replies.

Your call-to-action needs to be specific. Don't write 'Looking forward to your reply.' Instead, try 'May I send you our latest catalog?' or 'Are you available for a quick call this Thursday?' A clear, low-commitment CTA gets much higher response rates.
